Sustainable Plastic Recycling in Mongolia (SPRIM)

ESCM is implementing European Union financed 4 year project “Sustainable Plastic Recycling in Mongolia” (SPRIM) together with international and national non-governmental organizations such as Caritas Czech Republic, Ecosoum and Mongolian Sustainable Development Bridge. The project started in September 2020 and will be completed in December 2024.

Peshsaf participates in the development of the Environmental Code of the Republic of Tajikistan

The project is being implemented by current EHPMI member CSO Peshsaf with the financial and organizational support of the GIZ head office in Dushanbe and the Environmental Protection Committee under the Government of the Republic of Tajikistan

ESCM is implementing the project on Disaster Risk Management (Mongolia)

ESCM is currently implementing an ADB (Asian Development Bank) project on Disaster Risk Management together with ICEM, Australian consulting company in Mongolia to assist the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) of Mongolia in strengthening its capacity to deal with disaster risk assessment and risk reduction efforts.

Cleanup of Toxic Persistent Organic Pollutants in Sumgait, Azerbaijan

The project was implemented in 2014-2015 by the current EHPMI team and Azerikimya Joint Stock Company (Azerikimya) with the financial and organizational support of Pure Earth/Blacksmith Institute and the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.
Project dates: 2014-2015.
Number of people at risk: 10,000 residents.
Source of pollution: benzene, benzo(a)pyrene, and PCBs. 
Project implementers:  Blacksmith Azerbaijan, Azerikimya.
Total cost:  EUR 120,000, the project was funded by European Union, UNIDO, Azerikimya, and co-funded by the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources (MENR) of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Artisanal and small-scale gold miners (ASGM) in Mongolia

Building the Capacity of Mongolian Non-State Actors to Promote Sustainable Livelihoods and Poverty Reduction in Rural Artisanal Gold Mining Areas

The project was implemented in 2014-2016 by current EHPMI member Environment and Security Center of Mongolia with financial and organizational support of Blacksmith Initiative UK.

Lead Health Risk Reduction Project in Sovetskoe (Kan), Kyrgyzstan

The project was implemented in 2016-2018 with financial and organizational support of Pure Earth/Blacksmith Institute by members of the Civil Society Association “Ekois Bishkek,” current EHPMI member organization.
Project dates: 2016-2018
Number of people at risk: 1,300 residents, including 350 children (329 families)
Source of pollution/contaminants: open tailing from a former lead factory

Lead Remediation Project in Akhtala, Armenia

The project was implemented in 2015-2018 with financial and organizational support of Pure Earth/Blacksmith Institute by members of the current Armenia EHPMI team.

Number of people at risk: 2100 residents, including 600 children
Source of pollution: Former copper and silver ore processing and smelting
Project implementers: Blacksmith Armenia
The total cost of program implementation: $150,000, the project was funded by Armenia fund USA, co-funded by European Union, UNIDO and Trust for Mutual Understanding.
