Biography: born in St. Petersburg, Russia, grew up in Sakhalin Island in the Russian Far East.

Education: 

• MS in Ecology, Far Eastern State University (Vladivostok, Primorsky Krai, 2009).

Alena has more than 15 years of experience in environmental monitoring, environmental assessments, GIS spatial analysis, mapping, environmental documentation, and risk assessment. 

Alena used to manage a chemical analytical laboratory for monitoring air quality and industrial emissions, which provided her practical experience of many environmental laboratory methods and instruments of environmental quality control. 

For more than 10 years Alena has been working on various types of rapid environmental assessments of contaminated areas, including development and use of protocols of FAO REA, Pure Earth/Blacksmith Toxic Site Identification Program (TSIP/GIP), and national standards. 

Alena participated in environmental projects in Russia, Tajikistan, Azerbaijan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Georgia, Armenia, Mongolia, Ghana, India, Indonesia and other countries funded by major international organizations (UNIDO, FAO, EU, USAID, GreenCross Switzerland, Pure Earth, etc.). 

As a Regional Coordinator of Eastern Europe and Central Asia of Pure Earth, Alena managed projects implementation and financial planning and reporting.
